运动神经元病是以损害脊髓前角，桥延脑颅神经运动核和锥体束为主的一组慢性进行性变性疾病。以肌肉萎缩、肌无力等症状为最常见。如：说话不清，吞咽困难，活动困难、呼吸困难等等。最后在病人有意识的情况下因无力呼吸而死。所以这种病人也叫“渐冻人”。
