process simulation 用表示系统内各装置特性的数学模型(物料平衡、热量平衡、热力学平衡和设备设计方程等)以及表示各装置间结合关系的数学式，表示过程系统的特性。 过程模拟有开式与控制式之分，前者是从过程输入求出各装置的输出状态，后者是确定各装置的设计或操作条件以达到指定的过程输入或输出。 计算方法分序贯模块式(占商用模拟系统的80%)与联立方程式两大类(也有兼具二者的特点者)，前者把一个装置的数学模型作为一个模块，称为单元计算，模拟过程即追踪信息在模块间的流动情况；后者是通过求解联立方程得到所需要的系统信息。
