本指东晋时善于聚集宾客玩赏的车胤，后亦泛指善于集会游赏之人。 车公又称车大元帅，是中国民间信仰中的一个神祇，农历年初二，是车公诞节。相传车公为南宋末年时的一名勇将，籍贯江西南昌五福，因勘平江南之乱有功，被封为大元帅。后来，蒙古大军犯境，宋军无力反抗，宋帝昺南下避难，车公一直护驾到香港，在途中不幸病逝。乡民为念他生前贞忠英勇，便为他立庙供奉。
