路面底基层（base course）指的是除最上一层外的其他层被称为“底基层”，在此情况下，最上一层相应地被称为“基层”。 基层主要承受由面层传递的车辆荷载，并将荷载分布到垫层或土基上。当基层分为多层时，其最下面的一层称底基层。在建筑中，基层是指面层下的构造层，包括填充层、隔离层、找平层、垫层和基土等。在沥青路面基层下，用质量较次材料铺筑的次要的承重层或在水泥混凝土路面基层下用质量较次材料铺筑的结构层称作底基层。
