起兴，又叫“兴”。“兴者，先言他物以引起所咏之辞也”（ 朱熹《诗集传》）。就是说，先说其他事物，再说要说的事物。它一般用在诗章或各节的开头，是一种利用语言因素建立在语句基础上的“借物言情，以此引彼”的艺术表现手法，它有起情，营造作品气氛，协调韵律，确定韵脚和音步，拈连上下文关系等的作用。运用起兴手法还可使语言咏唱自由，行文显得轻快、活泼。
