许田，男，出生于浙江嘉兴。1982年获复旦大学学士学位，1990年获耶鲁大学博士学位,，1990-1993年在加州大学伯克利分校进行博士后研究。曾任美国耶鲁大学终身教授、遗传学系副系主任，霍华德休斯医学研究院研究员。 现任西湖大学讲席教授、副校长。
