为一系列与家族遗传有关的原发性进行性角膜病变的总称。该病多数为常染色体显性遗传；原发于角膜，很少伴随其他眼部病变或全身病变；起病大多在20岁以前；多侵犯角膜中央，双眼对称；病程缓慢，病变区多无新生血管生长；开始只侵犯角膜的某一层；晚期可波及邻近层次，甚至影响全层角膜；药物治疗无效。影响视力者可行角膜移植手术治疗。
