裂理属于矿物的力学性质，是矿物晶体受外力作用时，有时沿着一定的结晶方向，但并非是晶格本身薄弱方向破裂成平面的性质。这种平面称裂开面。有些矿物的双晶结合面，出熔体分布面的结合力较弱，受到外力作用易于裂开，形成光滑的破裂面，称为裂理。
