衬词是在民歌的歌词中，除直接表现歌曲思想内容的正词外，为完整表现歌曲而穿插的一些由语气词、形声词、谐音词或称谓构成的衬托性词语。衬词大都与正词没有直接关联，不属正词基本句式之内，甚至很多还是无意可解的词语，但一经和正词配曲歌唱，成为一首完整的歌曲时，衬词就表现出鲜明的情感，成为整个歌曲不可分割的有机组成部分。
