补炉是指对转炉突发性局部破坏或易损坏、易侵蚀部位进行的停炉或不停炉修理作业，补炉通常有热补和冷补两种方法。转炉传统的护炉方法是通过镁碳砖、大面料等补炉、喷补措施进行补炉。每次补炉均需要时间进行烧结，用时60～90 分钟，护炉时间长、护炉成本高。生铁块补炉修补面为倒渣面，利用大面粘挂生铁来降低炉体机械冲刷侵蚀，达到降低补炉料消耗和提高炉衬寿命的目的。
