血统主义是以父母的国籍决定出生婴儿的国籍而不问出生地何在的法律原则。其中，依父亲的国籍决定婴儿的国籍者，为“单系血统主义”（又叫父系血统主义），以父母双方任何一方的国籍决定婴儿的国籍者，为“双系血统主义”。以纯血统主义原则决定婴儿国籍的国家为数甚少，大多采用血统主义和出生地主义相结合的办法，1980年《中华人民共和国国籍法》即如此。
