1926年的劳力士，发明了“锁底，锁把，锁圈”的优秀防水结构。整体采用钢材车削而成。由于正面的玻璃和背面的后盖都是鼓起的，（也叫泡泡背）样子很象海里的蚝，又有蚝的坚固特征，所以以蚝式命名。现代的劳力士，上圈由锁紧改压式结构，玻璃和后盖也由鼓变平，但坚固防水的特征依然没有改变。所以依然延续这个叫法。
