这一类蝙蝠因其及嘴脸部特殊复杂的叶状突起而显著有别于其它类蝙蝠。吻鼻部有复杂的叶状突起，形成特殊的鼻叶。鼻叶两侧及下方为马蹄形的肉叶，中央有一向前突起的鞍状叶，后面又有一连接叶衬托，并与一顶叶相连。耳大，端部呈削尖状，无耳屏。后足除第一趾外，其余各趾均有三趾节。全身被细毛，背部淡棕褐色，腹毛灰棕色。
