花边新闻一词的由来已不可考，新闻加上花边，本意恐怕是想吸引读者眼球。十几年前报纸铅字排版的时候，笔者也编过不少“花边新闻”：为了突出某条新闻，会在版样纸上特别标注“全文加花边”，以提请印厂的排版师傅注意。不过，后来大家说花边新闻，一般是指那些勾引读者好奇心的粉色新闻。报纸上已经很难看见花边了，花边新闻的说法也被“娱乐新闻”或“八卦新闻”之类取代。
