自然衰减，是指一些污染物（尤其是有机污染物）在无人为干扰下，在土壤中发生的自然降解、弥散、稀释、吸附、挥发等化学和生物化学作用而降低其浓度、毒性和移动性的自然过程。自然衰减的特点是不采用任何人为去除污染的措施。
