膝骨性关节炎，又称为增生性、肥大性或退行性骨关节炎等。由于骨性关节炎是一种缓慢的病理发展过程，代表着关节的衰老，临床上多为中老年人患病，故又称为老年性骨关节炎。研究认为：人体的各关节中，以运动量多、负重量大的关节易发病，如颈椎、腰椎、膝关节、髋关节等。据有关文献报道，膝骨性关节炎约占全身各骨性关节炎的31%左右。从年龄来看，50岁者约有80%、60岁者90%、70岁以上者100%都有X线影像学的病理表现，但出现临床症状者仅占18%左右。在性别上的差异表现为发病率女高于男。
膝骨性关节炎(Knee Osteoarthritis)是以关节软骨退变为主要特征的退行性骨关节病,其中炎症反应在膝骨性关节炎的致病机制中发挥重要作用。
