正常人的腰椎排列整齐，如果由于先天或后天的原因，其中一个腰椎的椎体相对与邻近的腰椎向前滑移，即为腰椎滑脱。因退变、外伤或先天因素等使腰椎椎体与椎弓根或小关节突骨质连续性中断者，称为腰椎峡部崩裂；椎骨出现变位致使连续性延长，以致上位椎体、椎弓根、横突和上关节突一同在下位椎节上方向前移位者，称为腰椎峡部崩裂合并腰椎滑脱。而退变因素致腰椎滑脱者占60%以上。发病年龄以20~50岁较多。
