胭脂树(学名：Bixa orellana），胭脂树科。是热带地区最有名的染料植物。多年生落叶小乔木或灌木，树皮呈灰白色，有白斑，叶具长柄，互生，心形，先端锐尖，近於全缘，两面平滑。圆锥花序顶生，密布褐色短毛；花瓣 5 片，粉红色，萼形小，不整齐二裂，基部具腺体 5。蒴果扁三角形（鸡心形），密被软刺，其红色外种皮为良好之胭脂材料。亚马逊河流域与西印度群岛的原住民取胭脂树的种子，拌合唾液，再用手掌搓揉，涂抹脸部、皮肤，做为身体的装饰，看起来就像涂上胭脂一般，因此得名。
