正常在胃的出口有一个“开关”，即幽门括约肌，放松时允许胃内食糜通过进入十二指肠。如幽门括约肌“关不紧”，则十二指肠内的胆汁可以反流入胃造成慢性胃炎。 胆汁中胆盐可削弱胃粘膜的保护机制，使原来分泌入胃腔中的酸反弥散入胃粘膜，造成胃粘膜的损害。 胆盐在胃窦部刺激胃泌刺激胃酸分泌，一方面胃酸增多，另一方面胃粘膜保护机制削弱，使两者之间的平衡明显遭到破坏，这就不可避免地产生胃粘膜炎症。
