肝片形吸虫是一种寄生在牛、羊和其它哺乳动物胆管内的常见寄生虫。人亦可感染。肝片形吸虫与姜片虫的成虫和虫卵在形状、颜色和大小方面都十分相似。肝片形吸虫主要形态特征为虫体前端有明显突出的头锥；体表密布细小棘刺；腹吸盘不及姜片虫的发达；肠支有很多分支，呈树枝状；睾丸高度分支，前后排列在虫体中部。虫卵的形态特征：纵径比姜片虫略长（130-150mm）；卵盖略大；卵壳周围可见胆汁染色颗粒附着；胚细胞较易见到。
肝片形吸虫和鸡蛔虫对神经递质和药物的反应基本上是不同的。
