肝包虫囊肿多见于牧区，南美、南欧和澳洲等地人群发病多与牧羊有关，伊朗和伊拉克等与骆驼有关，加拿大和阿拉斯加则可能与驯鹿有关。我国内蒙古、西北、四川西部、西藏等地区较常见。本病又称肝棘球蚴病，由细粒棘球绦虫的蚴侵入肝脏所致。
