网状结构：指脑干内弥散的白质纤维交织成网、网眼内散布不同大小的神经元的细胞体与纤维混杂区。可分为内侧2/3的效应区(成自大中型细胞)和外侧1/3的感觉联络区(成自小型细胞)，内含许多网状核和中缝核，与脑的各部和脊髓有广泛联系。是躯体反射和内脏反射的重要联络站或中枢，对躯体运动和内脏活动有调节作用，对觉醒、睡眠、意识和内分泌活动也有影响。 网状结构也称“网状系统”。在脑干(即中脑、脑桥和延髓)中央部分的类似蜘蛛网的神经结构。由灰质和白质混合组成。 脑干网状结构对听觉信号的传入有调节作用。
