综合指标是是指对大量个体指标及其数值进行分组、对比和加变等变换后得到的指数。是某些个体指标的概括反映。其表现形式主要有绝对指标、相对指标和平均指标三种，其中相对指标和平均指标，又可分为许多种类型和计算方法，如平均指标可分为简单算术平均数、加权算术平均数、调和平均数、几何平均数、中位数和众数等。综合指标在环境统计中有着广泛的应用和较大的使用价值。在我国的环境统计指标体系中，大部分指标（如废水排放总量、等效声级、废水处理率和万元产值耗水系数等）都是综合指标。
