《纸说》撰者胡韫玉(公元1879—1947年)，字朴安，安徽泾县人，著名文史学家，生于清末。他参考一些历史文献并耳目所及，写成长篇的《纸说》，记载了安徽泾县等地出产的宣纸的制法。宣纸是我国名纸之一，清代以前很少有人谈及，直到20世纪20年代，才由胡韫玉记载下来。
