纵荡(surge)是指浸于水中的物体沿最长延展方向的水平线性振荡运动。如果该物体(如轴对称物体)无最长的水平延展方向,则规定纵荡运动方向为入射波方向。浸于水中的物体沿垂直方向的线性振荡运动称为“垂荡”,沿垂直于纵荡运动方向的水平线性振荡运动称为“横荡”。
