精胺是含有两个氨基和两个亚氨基的多胺类物质,在生物体内由腐胺(丁二胺)和S-腺苷蛋氨酸经多种酶催化后生成。它与亚精胺都存在于细菌和大多数动物细胞中,是促进细胞增殖的重要物质。在酸性条件下,它呈现出多阳离子多胺类特性,并能与病毒与细菌中DNA结合。使DNA分子具有更大的稳定性与柔韧性,也是细胞培养液中必要组分之一。
