沁水古称端氏，为千年古县，历史悠久，人杰地灵。春秋末年三家分晋，徙晋君于端氏。 古端氏治所，在山西沁水东行45公里的端氏古镇，是沁河流域最大的古镇。该镇东以巍山为依，西有榼山为屏，从北至南是千年流淌的沁河水，陵沁、端润公路在镇内横贯交汇。这里自古土地肥沃，气候温和，商贸繁荣，交通发达，被称为沁东地区的旱码头，是名震三晋的历史古镇。
