章穆，字深远，晚号杏云老人，江西鄱阳（今江西省波阳县）人。 生卒年不详。按《调疾饮食辩》成书于清嘉庆十八年（1813年），据作者在书中《述臆》篇自述，其时“阅历病情五十余载”，又据同治十年《鄱阳县志》，云章穆“年七十余暴殄”，以年二十行医估算，作者大约生于乾隆初1743年左右，卒于1813年以后。
