票据时效（Aging notes），是指持票人可以有效地进行票据权利的行使的期间。这里“票据权利的行使” 作广义解释， 既包括付款请求权和追索权的行使，也包括请求承兑、请求作出拒绝证明书等。广义票据时效相应地也应包括行使票据权利的时效和保全票据权利的时效。经过一定的期间不行使票据权利或不保全票据权利，票据权利人对特定票据债务人不能有效地行使相应的请求权，票据义务人当然得拒绝其请求。
与民法上的时效相比，票据时效具有短期性和独立性的特征。
