票据保证是票据债务人以外的人为担保票据债务的履行，以承担同一内容的票据债务为目的的一种票据行为。票据上的一切债务人，包括承兑人、出票人、背书人、参加承兑人等都可以成为被保证人; 除被保证人以外的任何人，包括其他票据债务人均可成为保证人。票据保证的范围主要包括承兑人的付款债务，出票人、背书人、参加承兑人等的被追索债务。票据保证应作于票据的粘单上，《中华人民共和国票据法》 (1995年) 规定，正式保证应记载的事项是： 表明 “保证” 的字样，保证人名称和住所、被保证人的名称、保证日期、保证人签章。若未记载被保证人的名称，已承兑的汇票，承兑人为被保证人; 未承兑的汇票，出票人为被保证人。若未记载保证日期，出票日期为保证日期。保证人清偿汇票债务后，可以行使持票人对被保证人及其前手的追索权。票据保证的作用是补充特定债务人信用不足，但在实际上有了票据保证往往暴露了被保证人信用程度不高，对被保证人的信用反而起消极作用，因此，一般票据债务人并不愿意进行票据保证，而是采取其他方法。
