磁尾，是指地球磁层的尾部。由于太阳风的作用，背着太阳一面的地磁场伸展到非常远的地方，形成一个磁尾，其边界近似圆柱形。 磁尾的半径为22个地球半径。对其长度尚无一致的看法，有些探测资料认为，磁尾延伸到几百个地球半径之外。磁尾中的等离子体密度十分稀薄，每立方厘米不到0.1个离子。
