磁圈是地球的远地磁场。它是地球磁场和太阳风相互作用的产物。磁圈的外部边界为磁层顶，可以达到13 000公里的空间，是环绕地球最外层的环状圈，远远超过地球大气最外层的界限，所以把磁圈叫做超外圈，是地球最外层的圈层。磁圈由于太阳风的作用，理想的环状圈已不存在。太阳风的压力使向着太阳一侧的磁层被压缩，在这里磁力线几乎挤在一起，磁层变窄；而在背向太阳的另一侧，磁层顶则被延伸得很远，磁力线非常稀疏，磁层变宽。因而磁圈的形状有点类似彗星的外貌。
