硬锰矿（Psilomelane）化学成分mMnO·MnO2·nH2O，含Mn45%～60%。斜方晶系。通常呈钟乳状、肾状、葡萄状集合体，亦有呈树枝状、致密块状集合体。颜色与条痕均为黑色。半金属光泽。硬度4～6。比重4.4～4.7。性脆。常见于锰矿床的氧化带和沉积锰矿床中。是炼锰的重要矿物原料。
