硅铝层(sial)地壳中花岗岩层和玄武岩层的化学成分均以硅和铝为主，故合称“硅铝层”、过去曾将花岗岩层单独称为“硅铝层”，，而将玄武岩层称为“硅镁层”，现有的文献仍沿用。该层厚度在山区可达40公里，在平原常为10余公里。在海洋则竖着变薄，在太平洋中部此层甚至缺失。
福建东南沿海断裂1多发生于上地壳硅铝层，少数达硅镁层。
