矿震(mine earthquake)是指采矿诱发的地震。在地下开矿挖井时形成大面积空洞,受局部构造应力、采挖附加应力和大地应力场变化的影响,于局部地带形成高应力集中区,在一定的诱发条件下,急剧而猛烈地释放出来,引起强烈的地面晃动和摇动。矿震是矿山主要环境问题之一,也是导致地面沉陷的重要原因。矿震震源浅,面波丰富,属于诱发地震。矿震的周期比天然地震的要长,这与矿震所激发的地震波在较浅的地层传播有关。迄今全球最大的矿震为5.5级。
