在机器铁模尚未出现之前，云南用以紧压茶品的器具多为石制模具，简称石模。文献记载中，早期使用时重量约２５千克，现今遵循传统制程的石模，多以0.３３～0.３７千克居多。因应不同的需求，石模有不同的形状与重规格，饼型较古朴而圆润。通常石模压制的饼茶紧压度较为匀称，不若铁模般紧压及中心点与边缘紧压度不同。因紧压较为松散，石模紧压制做的茶品相对陈化速度较快，汤质较滑，但香气偏弱。
