瞬时功率是指物理学中电路在瞬时吸收的功率。其大小等于瞬时电压电流瞬时值的乘积。瞬时功率的引出是由于电力系统中非线性负荷造成了电压、电流的波形相对于标准正弦波发生了畸变。传统的谐波理论将电压、电流分别独立进行傅立叶正交分解，这不仅很难看出电压与电流间线性关系的好坏，而且由于对应于各次谐波电压、电流都存在有功、无功分量，而这些分量又不能简单叠加成总的有功、无功，从而造成了功率分析的复杂性。
