监察御史，古代官名，掌管监察百官、巡视郡县、纠正刑狱、肃整朝仪等事务。隋文帝开皇二年（公元582年）始设，改检校御史为监察御史。唐御史台分为三院，监察御史属察院，品秩不高而权限广。宋元明清因之。明清废御史台设都察院，通常弹劾与建言，设都御史、副都御史、监察御史。监察御史分道负责，因而分别冠以某某道地名。 《新唐书·百官志三》：“监察御史十五人，正八品下。掌分察百僚，巡按州县，狱讼、军戎、祭祀、营作、太府出纳皆莅焉；知朝堂左右厢及百司纲目。”
元和初，拜监察御史，坐诬李吉甫，出为资州刺史。
