白髓，位于脾脏内部，包含着一种特殊的白细胞，这些细胞聚集在血管周围，当血液流过脾脏的时候，白髓中的淋巴细胞辨认并吞噬掉任何侵入的细菌和病毒，以此方式过滤人体血液，防止机体被病菌感染。
红髓淤血，白髓缩小并有红细胞存在，两者分界不清；
