白三叶又名白车轴草、白三叶草、荷兰翘摇。它是世界上分布最广，栽培最多的牧草之一。白三叶原产于欧洲和小亚细亚。目前它已在世界温带、亚热带地区广为种植。在我国湖南、江苏、广西、云南、贵州等地区春季生长情况良好，高温季节假死大部分能越夏，是南方很少栽种的豆科草种。
