痰火是指无形之火与有形之痰煎熬胶结贮积于肺的病证，即所谓"窠囊之痰"。该证平时可无明显症状，如因外邪或饮食内伤等因素则引致发作。其症颇似哮喘，症见烦热胸痛，口干唇燥，痰块很难咯出等。甚或出现头部及耳后有痰核如串珠状，或脏下有结核的病症。其核按之紧，推之不移，并兼见舌红苔黄、脉弦滑数等。因其由于肝火、痰郁所致，故名痰火。
