玷污层是在切削牙体组织时所产生的热使有机质变性,变性的有机质和切削下来的牙质粉末与牙本质小管溢出液,唾液和细菌等掺和,在钻磨压力作用下使之贴附于洞壁形成的。牙本质的有机质的含量较釉质高,故切削牙本质形成的玷污层较釉质厚。玷污层可进入牙本质小管形成管塞。用一般的冲洗方法不能除去。玷污层的存在会妨碍修复体与洞壁的密合性。同时,由于玷污层的表面自由能低,是亲水的,不利于粘接剂在牙面的润湿和渗入,从而影响粘接。
玷污层是牙体切割过程中的必然产物。
