现况研究（existing circumstances research）是研究特定时点或时期与特定范围内人群中的有关变量(因素)与疾病或健康状况的关系，即是调查这个特定的群体中的个体是否患病和是否具有某些变量或特征的情况，从而探索具有不同特征的暴露与非暴露组的患病情况或是否患病组的暴露情况。
Methods:1. By using cross-sectional study method,we investigate all the hospitalized elderly schizophrenia patients in one psychiatric institution in Toufen,Maioli,Taiwan during June to September in 2007.
方法:本次课题采用横断面现况研究方法,在台湾苗栗县头份镇一家大型医院精神医疗中心对老年精神分裂症患者进行调查,把2007年6-9月间60岁或以上的住院病患作为调查对象,诊断全部符合DSM-IV-TR精神分裂症的标准。
