环化是指开链有机物转化为闭环结构有机物的过程。 含三个或以上双键的多不饱和脂肪酸在加热、碱异构化与催化氢化等反应中会发生自环化，生成环化脂肪酸。如亚麻酸酯在乙二醇溶液中加热到225℃～295℃或在氢氧化钠水溶液中于84kg/cm2，300℃下进行，所得产物含有一定量的1，2-双取代环已二烯。
