玉器，是中国古代文明的一项重要内容。当新石器时代晚期，玉器的制作可能已发展为独立的手工业部门。在河姆渡文化、大汶口文化、良渚文化、红山文化、龙山文化的遗址中，均有精美的玉器出土。其中如玉斧、玉铲、玉兵器等，当有一定的实用价值。
