特定物，是指具有特有的属性、不能以其他物代替的物，即世界上独一无二的物。如一张名画、一件古玩等。当然这种分类是相对的，在种类物中，经过特别选定挑出来的物，也就成为特定物了。这种分类的法律意义在于，特定物在交付之前灭失的，可免去义务人的交付义务，因其交付已为不可能；而如果交付的是种类物，则不能免除义务人的交付义务，除非同种类物已全部灭失。
