爱州的位置在汉朝属九真郡（Cửu Chân Quận）。南朝梁普通四年（公元523年）分交州（Giao Châu）置。治移风（今越南清化西北），隋代移治九真（今越南清化），辖境约当今越南清化附近一带。隋、唐承袭之，也称九真郡，领九真等七个县。唐高宗调露年后属安南都护府（An Nam đô hộ phủ）。唐高宗总章二年，置福禄州，亦曰福禄郡。至德二载改为唐村郡，领柔远等三个县。
