目前镁碳砖被大量应用于钢包渣线部位，服役环境恶劣，而镁碳砖的抗侵蚀性成为制约钢包寿命的关键因素。镁碳砖侵蚀机制方面的研究可以分为两大类，一类是宏观机制，包括三个主要因素；一是热辐射分布不均导致炉壁上的热点；二是由于温度的起伏导致的热应力；三是由于高温熔体的剧烈搅动导致的冲刷。另一类是微观机制，主要包括以下因素，石墨的氧化，镁砂的溶解和结合剂的分解等等。 其中，对宏观机制的探究在实验室无法完成，对于微观机制，可通过改变钢渣成分开展镁碳砖热侵蚀试验探究。
