烧死，是指高温火焰作用于机体，导致机体组织结构破坏，体内维持正常生命活动的生理机能障碍，而引起的死亡。常见的死亡原因有以下几种：（1）休克。高温火焰或热气流作用于皮肤的感觉神经末梢，产生剧烈疼痛，并通过神经反射导致原发性休克。（2）窒息。高温火焰和热气流的吸入可导致气道烧伤和急性喉头水肿，堵塞呼吸道，引起窒息。（3）中毒。不完全燃烧产生的一氧化碳被吸入，通过肺泡的气体交换吸收入血，并与血液中红细胞内的血红蛋白结合，引起一氧化碳中毒。（4）心脏功能障碍。心脏病患者在高热作用下可诱发窦性心动过速、心律失常、心房颤动、冠状动脉栓塞、心肌梗死、心力衰竭等。（5）脑功能障碍。高热作用于头部，导致脑水肿、颅内压增高，最终出现脑疝，压迫呼吸、、循环中枢，引起呼吸、循环功能衰竭。（6）肾功能障碍。原发性休克可导致肾小球毛细血管循环功能障碍，肾小球滤过减低，氮质血症，最后导致急性肾功能衰竭。
