烟炱是指从烟囱壁分离下来的或被烟道气冲刷出来而后落到烟囱周围地区的煤烟团。烟炱的粒径一般小于0.5μm,也有更细的小于0.1μm的埃根核。其成分中50%是碳(即炭黑)。
